My Teaching Philosophy
Children are the future. Their education determines the future of the world. An educator plays one of the most important roles in a child’s life: teaching them the skills necessary to become successful in their lives. Educator Marva Collins said, “Once children learn how to learn, nothing is going to narrow their mind. The essence of teaching is to make learning contagious, to have one idea spark another”. However, this can be a daunting task for educators; especially with the world becoming increasingly more diverse. I believe I will achieve the ultimate goal of providing students with the skills to become successful in life by providing them with three essential pieces of success: 1) experiences that allow for exploration and self-directed learning; 2) safe and positive environment, and 3) encouragement to follow their dreams.
Every child is unique and holds tremendous potential for the future. Children need to be given every experience possible to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in life. Each child also learns differently and comes into the classroom with different experiences. Through constructivist teaching, I believe children will be able to relate their experiences to the real world as they see it, and will be able to better internalize the concepts being taught.
I also believe every child can learn if the opportunity is given. I believe children learn best through self-discovery and experiences. As an educator, I will strive to provide the best possible experiences for my students so they can grow in every way. I will achieve this by providing constructive lessons, which allow students to explore ideas and concepts on their own and at their own pace as well as with each other.
It is imperative that children have a solid and structured day to succeed. I will keep consistency in every aspect of the school day so my students can thrive. I believe children learn best in positive environments. A positive environment allows more learning to take place and students will enjoy class when the atmosphere is light, friendly, and safe. I will strive to make my classroom positive every day by encouraging positive reinforcement. I will accomplish this through modeling positive reinforcement daily and recognizing the positive reinforcement children give to others.
Many children have big dreams for their future. I strongly believe that a child’s dream is never out of their reach. I believe educators need to encourage a child to follow their dreams and assist them in making them come true. As an educator, I will provide children with many constructive opportunities to explore their dreams and to decide what they want to pursue.
The future of the earth is in every child’s hand. Eventually they will be the ones making important decisions that will affect an entire society. As an educator, I believe in providing the best quality education to students, so that in the future, they will be able to use their knowledge to create the best possible world for everyone.
